The story behind the name

Name of a J-Class sailing yacht the British aircraft designer and regatta sailer Sir Thomas Sopwith used to attempt to win the America's Cup as a challenger in 1934. Till that time no challenger had ever come so close to winning the Auld Mug. The victory of the Americans was very narrow and extremely controversial, because the rules were lop-sided, favouring the defending Rainbow yacht. At that time there was talk of the rules having been bent. Newspaper headlines announced: "Britannia rules the waves and America waives the rules". The present-day owner of the yacht built by Camper & Nicholson is American L. Dennis Kozlowski. In 2000 he said, "No one truly owns Endeavour, she's a part of yachting history. I'm delighted to be the current caretaker." There are limited prints of the yacht in the cabin.
